CHARACTER INFO
Name: Lion Ushiromiya
Canon: Umineko no Naku Koro ni
Age: 19
Gender: Canon gender is undefined, but I will be playing Lion as a male.
Crime Committed: Murder
Personality:
As far as overall personality goes, Lion is a pretty honest and amiable person despite the burden of being the heir in line to inherit the family headship. This happy-go-lucky character is polite, but demands for people to be respectful--although not in an imposing manner. Instead, when he catches someone acting out, that person will find themselves on the receiving end of one of this kid’s formidable pinches. And unfortunately for the victims, the favored target for Lion’s pinch is the derriere. We see this action performed several times when Willard H. Wright’s blunt attitude becomes a bit too rude for Lion‘s tastes. Lion has also teasingly done this to his younger sister Jessica, since her behavior can tend to be rough and rowdy. The pinching isn’t in any way meant to be flirtatious, as most would think--however, it does distinctly reveal a somewhat playful and mischievous side of Lion.
It’s true that Lion is, for the most part, a generally polite and easygoing person. However, once he runs out of patience, this mild behavior becomes grumpy and somewhat snide--at this point, Lion won’t put up with any nonsense. This is shown during the funeral Kinzo holds for Beatrice when Bernkastel is carelessly standing on the deceased’s coffin, showing no respect for the dead. Lion asks her to step down. But of course the words do no good on someone like Bernkastel, and Lion eventually has to use a harsher tone--which Bernkastel still ignores. Other than that, this no-nonsense, somewhat sarcastic attitude is often displayed around Will, especially when Will won’t explain something to Lion and Lion is forced to remain in a confused state.
In terms of intelligence, Lion isn’t particularly a genius, nor is he dense. He is quick to catch on to certain things at times (such as figuring out that Dina was Will’s cat and not a female friend), but slow with some other concepts--especially when strange, bizarre concepts are involved. When Willard and Bernkastel discuss topics related to these things, Lion tries to understand but doesn’t quite grasp it, and is often told by Will that he’ll “just get a headache” if he keeps thinking on things that are beyond his level. It can be seen that not being able to understand something and being kept in the dark irritates Lion. However, since he is so honest, Lion isn’t afraid to admit when he can’t quite fully understand things.
It is shown several times that Lion is a very eloquent speaker who is able to handle most situations discreetly, in a firm yet gentle manner. This could be because Lion is accustomed to dealing with people with difficult, temperamental attitudes, since he often speaks with his grandfather, who is an eccentric, stubborn and proud type of person.
Background:
Lion Ushiromiya is the nineteen year old heir-apparent to the prosperous Ushiromiya family who resides on the island of Rokkenjima in Japan. It is the current family head’s will for Lion to take over the family when he reaches the age of twenty. He is the grandchild of the current head, Kinzo Ushiromiya, and the child of Krauss and Natsuhi. Lion has only one sibling--a younger sister named Jessica. Lion is very respectful towards his entire family, and they all share a peaceful, stable life together. One would never think that this child would be capable of any foul play.
Despite his calm personality, Lion’s history is twisted and somewhat tragic. At one point in time, Lion’s grandfather had an Italian mistress named Beatrice Castiglioni, an important woman who loaned gold to the family so that they could prosper and gain wealth. Kinzo had a child with this Beatrice Castiglioni, whom he also named Beatrice (or more appropriately, Beatrice II). Lion is the illegitimate child born from an incestuous affair full of misguided emotions between Kinzo and his daughter Beatrice II. This is why Lion is the favored heir, whereas Kinzo’s other, oldest son Krauss would normally inherit the title of family head. Lion knew nothing about his true background and believed that he was purely the child of Natsuhi and Krauss, until all of this was revealed to him upon his grandfather’s declining state of health.
It was soon after this history was made known to Lion that his grandfather passed away under seemingly mysterious circumstances. Because Lion was the last to be seen with his grandfather, and because of the nature of the final conversation between the two, it was believed that Lion had a motive for murdering his grandfather, possibly by poison. The rest of the family--his aunts and uncles who were unhappy with his inheritance for the fortune, namely--pulled together a (very questionable, yet court-withstanding) case proving Lion as the culprit, which led to his incarceration. He was transferred to Deadman Wonderland a month later because of overcrowding in his previous prison.

Hello everyone!
I’m sorry to be a bother with this, but I’m afraid I really don’t understand how Deadman Wonderland operates, even after reading the rulebook thoroughly… It’s just…absurd! I’ve never heard of a prison that works like a circus before. The legality of such a place is highly questionable…!
I’m not asking for anyone to spell everything out for me, I suppose I’m just wondering if anyone else is in the same situation I am. If so, we could possibly discuss what confuses us and try to come to appropriate conclusions.
After all, the one thing I did gather from this rulebook is that our lives depend on our understanding of this place.
Third Person Sample:
A prison…this was the last possible place on earth that Lion ever would have expected he’d end up! His life had been perfect before he was falsely accused of having murdered his grandfather. Or, no…that wasn’t quite true. His life came crashing down the last time he spoke to his “grandfather.” That man’s final words to him involved claims that Lion’s mother and father were not who he thought they were: that his grandfather was his father by birth and that his mother, the daughter of his grandfather had been his mother--ugh, it was just too confusing! He never asked for something like that! He’d been happier before that was all sprung on him. Didn’t the saying go, “ignorance is bliss?” Still, that didn’t mean he’d been upset enough over the sudden revelations to murder his own relative--his own father. No, he was the type who would never even think to harm a fly.
He sighed as he reached up to touch the cold, hard metal collar around his neck. He’d fallen so far, from a life of luxury all the way down to the prison lifestyle of a convict. Even if his false charges were ever cleared, by some miracle, he was sure that it would be difficult dealing with the repercussions of this incarceration.
